Today it’s a resort town with three villages — South Yarmouth, Yarmouth Port, and West Yarmouth — each with excellent fishing access.
Incorporated in 1793 and named after Reverend Josiah Dennis. Divided into five villages — Dennis Village, East Dennis, South Dennis, West Dennis, and Dennis Port — each with its own charm and access to both Cape Cod Bay and Nantucket Sound.

Cape Cod's largest river, dividing Yarmouth and Dennis. Anglers find striped bass, black sea bass, bluefish, and fluke in abundance — with the option to fish at Tire Pile, an artificial reef just south of Bass River.
At the mouth of Bass River, ideal for pier and jetty fishing where fluke, bluefish, and striped bass are frequently caught. A great spot to bring kids, thanks to the well-maintained fishing pier.
A popular bathing beach that transforms into a prime fishing location after dark — bluefish in summer, striped bass in spring and fall. Walk west past a series of jetties to reach the outflow and shallow flats near Swan River. Try Hogy Originals or Sand Eels for bass at night; popping plugs for big bluefish at dawn and dusk.
A peaceful spot best fished after dark. Bluefish are common in summer, while stripers are more prevalent in spring and fall. Wade out along a series of jetties west of the public beach to reach the shallow outflow.
Along Cape Cod Bay, popular for saltwater fishing especially in spring and fall when striped bass are abundant. The tidal flats make it perfect for wade fishing, with gentle currents giving easy access to prime areas.
This estuary opens into Cape Cod Bay, offering great wade or kayak fishing. Currents can be strong, but early morning or night fishing here can yield trophy-sized striped bass.
A favorite among local anglers, known for its peaceful surroundings and opportunities for fly fishing, spinning, and baitcasting.
A stocked freshwater pond offering largemouth bass, perch, pickerel, sunfish, and trout — especially in spring and early summer.
Locals recommend Swan River and West Dennis Beach for peaceful after-dark fishing — especially striped bass and bluefish in the shoulder seasons. Corporation Beach is a favorite for wade fishing on the shallow tidal flats. For a family outing, the fishing pier at Smuggler’s Beach in West Yarmouth is a great spot to take kids, with consistent catches of fluke and bluefish.
